Our project took place on Winchendon Road in Fulham, where rows of late-Victorian terraces define the streetscape. These elegant homes, with their traditional façades and sash windows, are often prime candidates for a Victorian House Refurbishment, requiring careful upgrades to meet modern living standards.
Behind their charm lie challenges common to period property renovation — damp-proofing on lower ground floors, structural quirks when adding lofts or extensions, and the practicalities of limited site access. Achieving a successful terrace house renovation demands both technical expertise and a respect for the home’s heritage character.
The Brief: Victorian house renovation
We were appointed to deliver a full back to brick refurbishment of a Victorian terraced house in Fulham. The brief called for a complete modernisation, including a new internal layout, loft conversion, rear extension, and bespoke joinery, while preserving traditional details. Our scope covered every aspect of a terraced house refurbishment: full strip-out, reconfigured staircase, a hand-finished kitchen, and a series of new bathrooms. The aim was to create a functional, light-filled home designed for family living.
What We Did
We carried out a comprehensive Victorian house renovation, including rewiring, replumbing, damp proofing, and new flooring throughout. A Devol kitchen with integrated Miele appliances and a Quooker tap was installed, alongside bathrooms featuring Dornbracht brassware and Duravit sanitaryware.
To expand the property, we constructed a loft conversion and a rear extension with Crittall-style glazing, bringing natural light into the ground floor. Bespoke joinery, wardrobes, and a walk-in wardrobe added functionality and refinement. The scheme was finished with Little Greene paints and Zoffany wallpapers, balancing elegance with everyday practicality.
Final result: Fulham Terrace Reimagined
This Victorian house renovation transformed a dated terrace into a serene, functional family home.
The open-plan kitchen and living space now flow seamlessly into the garden, while the bathrooms pair natural stone and contemporary fixtures for a refined look. Bespoke wardrobes, a walk-in wardrobe, and fitted joinery enhance storage and comfort, while period property renovation details like sash windows and plaster cornicing were retained.
The open-plan dining area connects seamlessly to the new rear extension. Bespoke joinery, warm timber finishes, and full-height glazing create a bright, functional space designed for family living.
The bathrooms were finished with Duravit sanitaryware and Dornbracht brassware. Bespoke vanity units and black-framed mirrors add a contemporary edge, while soft lighting enhances the sense of calm.
Bespoke wardrobes and custom joinery were installed throughout, complemented by neutral tones and layered furnishings. This bedroom feels serene and timeless, blending elegance with everyday comfort.
The result is a light-filled, carefully reconfigured home that balances Victorian character with bespoke joinery, contemporary finishes, and the practicality of modern family living in Fulham.
